American Samoa Community Cancer Coalition Honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month

"Circle of Caring" Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The American Samoa Community Cancer Network will honor Breast Cancer Awarenss Month by partnering with the local American Samoa Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (ASBCCEDP).  On October 13, 2008 ASCCC, with the assistance of Program Coordinator for the ASBCCEDP, Moira Wright, RN,  sponsored the "Circle of Caring" Walk.  The event started at Fa'galu Park and ended at Utulei Beach.  Ms. Julie Sword "pumped" up the participants with her aerobic excercises.  The walk is a great way to get community support to increase awareness and education about breast cancer.

"We understand the need to get the community involved.  This walk helps us to educate the community about Breast Cancer Awareness Month", stated ASCCC Board Chair Jennifer Tofaeono.  "We want to encourage all women to get their annual mammograms, and to become proactive.  Breast Cancer affects us all, mother, sister, daughter, or friend.  The best way to see a decrease in the number of women with breast cancere here in the territory is to take control, and become engaged." The ASCCC is committed to increasing public knowledge on the importance of early screening.
